Discover Feminism

Created By Strong and Powerful Individuals

Feminism can be defined and expressed in many ways, shapes and forms. When comes to the values that inform my ideal vision of feminism it includes being a strong, independent, and driven individual. When it comes to feminism it includes all women, races, and sexuality/genders. These individuals come together to fight and protect right not only for women but the other minorities in society. When comes to the kinds of practices that are most reminiscent of the kind of feminism I espouse as being a leader. Being able to speak up and fight for what they believe is right. I am a strong and independent woman who will stand up and fight when it's needed. Now you may be thinking Can anyone be a feminist, or is this limited to a certain kind of person or identity or values? Anyone from any background, race, ethnicity, and sexuality can be a feminist. You just have to be strong and driven. Not only that but also be willing to stand up and fight for what you believe in. For example, involved in a protest-like slut walks brought awareness for women to have control over what they wore and showed individuals it is not the clothes that contribute to sexual assault or rape, but it is the individuals who have no self-control or respect. That it’s not the victim’s fault or their clothing options. Also being able to support that everyone is beautiful no matter the weight, color, or race. Overall feminism is a beautiful movement that brings together many individuals and these individuals were able to provide not only women’s rights but allow awareness of many different social issues.

Inspiration and Leaders

― Brigham Young

"No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half of its citizens." -Michelle Obama

The Interview

When it comes to this interview it is with my Tia, Candice Gomez. Overall my tia is a strong, driven woman who I look up to every day. Now when it comes to feminism I believe she was the right individual for this interview. My Tia works as a Nurse, she was able to provide a strong opinion on this topic and was able to give examples and stereotypes relating to her job and family life. When it comes to my Tia she supports the aspect of working women even though she has a family and house to care for. She is strong and she can have the privilege to have my uncle help with the cooking and cleaning within the house. She can represent not only the women working aspect but also the equality within the genders in the household. Within this interview, you will hear about how stereotypes are within the nursing community and also how marriages were affected in her life. Also, you will hear how she views feminism and she is able to represent this aspect. Also when it comes to the issues within society today you will be able to hear a unique answer dealing with the LGPTQ+ community. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy this interview with my Tia Candice Gomez.

“Hear me as a woman./Have me as your sister./On purpled battlefield breaking day,/So I might say our victory is just beginning,/See me as change,/Say I am movement,/That I am the year,/and I am the era/of the women.”

Does my Tia show Feminism?

Overall after interviewing my aunt she in my mind shows feminism. My Tia is a strong, activist and independent woman who has fought so many battles to be able to be where she is today. She has been able to do so many protect regarding her job and fighting for her rights in the Healthcare community. She is also able to manage a household and a full time job. Her household is able to show how gender equality in the household benefits the family and the household dynamic. My Tia has shown strength, determination not only in her day to day life but also to bring awareness for others. My Tia is able to fight not only for herself and her rights but also for my cousin. My cousin is disabled, he is blind. When it comes to my Tia she has always been the one to speak up and fight for what is right and for equality. She has been able to show society how even though my cousin is disable he can still play sports and do kickboxing. He knows  that sky's the limit and my Tia will not let society be an issue that gets in his way.

Has my Tia witness or experienced gender inequality?

When it comes to the interview with my Tia she mentioned that when it comes to her earliest memories regarding gender inequality it was growing up. When she was growing up my Nona was to care for the kids and the house as my Papa Rick was the provider. My Papa Rick did have the mentality that he is the man of the house and my Nona needs to stay home and be the stay-at-home wife. When time went on and my Nona found a job this resulted in their marriage failing. This was one of the many factors that then lead to their divorce. This is due to the fact that my Papa Rick was demanding and he did not like the fact that my Nona will be working and also be providing for the house. This is due to the fact that when it comes to social norms back then women were not supposed to be seen as a provider for the house but rather as the ones who cooked and cleaned and cared for the children. On the other hand, my Tia has not experienced any gender inequality in her life she has only witnessed it in her childhood household.

Within the interview the question was asked What do you think are the most pressing issues around gender equity today? She began to mention that gender equality issues were aimed at feminism rather than they are aimed at the wide variety of different genders and sexualities. When it comes to her perspective it was able to show that her view on society’s issues is to provide the same rights and respect for those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Even though she mentioned that she didn’t like this answer i believe this is a great answer. Because not only is feminism had the foundation of fighting for women’s rights but it has been able to expand and become such a diverse and unique group of individuals that are now protesting for the right of our LGBTQ+ community members. When it comes to pride month and being able to support these individuals then allows not only more respect but the support for these individuals to keep fighting and show that they belong. When it comes to Feminism it all began with the Suffrage movement and now we can fight for the rights of many different genders and sexualities.

Has my Tia helped gender inequality?

Unfortunately, when it comes to the interview she did mention that when it comes to her everyday life she hasn’t done anything that has allowed andy advancement within gender equality. But when it comes to society itself being able to contribute to the issue regarding gender inequality with the LGBTQ+ community is allowing pride month and reconnaissance to those are of this community. Not only is pride month a great recognition but there are more top jobs like movies and modeling agencies that are able to represent transgender and gay indivduals within their jobs. When society is becoming more welcoming and supportive it can provide a welcome and comfort for these individuals. Even though Tia wasn't able to mention any way she has helped contribute I know society as a whole is making an impact on this issue. When it comes to examples of famous trans individuals there can inspire others are Laverne Cox, Caitlyn Jenner, and many more. When it comes to Laverne Cox she is one of the main stairs in Orange Is the New Black. Also when it comes to Caitlyn Jenner used to be Bruce Jenner on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She used to be a former American Olympic Athlete.

The Future

Within the last question, my Tia had the perspective that we are progressing towards the future of gender equality. This is because when it comes to her perspective she took the information that we have been able to fight and succeed in the rights of women, but now we are being had to fight for the rights of the other unique and diverse individuals. For example, she was able to mention that the expansion of all the new gender and sexualities and how society is becoming more open and supportive of these individuals are adding progress to society’s issue of gender inequalities.
